you can do this with nearly any science fiction/fantasy, and there's a reason, it makes for a good story. nobody's copying anybody. its like saying "hey wait a minute in these two stories good triumphs over evil, one must have ripped off the other." derp.

In music you only have 12 notes to work with. Yet plenty of pop music "artists" pull out shit that doesn't sound familiar enough for us to think it's copied. Same as film, all different variations of basically the same thing.
