Religion is one of the major pillars or civilizations, they bring people together, and create culture. Nearly all of the progress made from 1100-1800 was influenced by religion. Same goes for things like the Roman Empire, their use of religion as a method of control gained them power and thus, a large culture, you need cultures to promote invention. Regardless of your religious beliefs, Religion has been a driving force in mankind's history

cultures don't promote invention, freedom and creativity promote invention. North Korea has a culture, why didn't their rocket work? Well, it might have been useful between 1100 and 1800. But it's over. Now, the Church is totally useless organisation. Nowadays it creates no culture, doesnt make any progress, doesnt empower anything. Sry.
